Iris 2010

Iris in bloom

Click for a bigger picture, it’s hard to tell in this size.

Here’s Grandma’s purple iris.  She’s been gone a long time now, but the iris is going strong.  It finally adjusted to the climate difference and blooms with the rest of the iris now.

Grandma's Iris

I need to get after those damned snails.

They are big! And beautiful. And smell delicious. We just got rid of a tree over them, they should bloom better next year. I sincerely hope I’m not the one tending them by that point. But I’ll divide some of them and take them with me to the next place.

  2. My grandma had about a quarter acre of them in all colors. And she knew the name of every one of them, too. Every Memorial Day, we’d load up washtubs of iris to put on the family graves.

A washtub full of iris. Wow, that really rings my bell. I’d like a picture of that. On my wall.
My grandma always knew the names of all her flowers, too. She was particularly careful to always refer to the roses by their “proper” names…. “And here’s Mr. Lincoln, coming along so nice.”
