Urban Word of the Day

June 14: store d’oeuvres

Snacks and food samples that a grocery store will serve at various locations in order to tempt the patrons into buying something they weren’t planning on (pizza, chips and dip, sausage, etc.). Usually happens on the weekend.

I went to Costco the other day and filled up on store d’oeuvres.

Ha!  I know people (and probably shouldn’t admit it) who go to Costco on the weekends and eat lunch that way.   On purpose.   It’s like eating a pu-pu platter or tapas.  A little of this, a little of that …   It’s generally nice and heavy on the three main food groups – fat, carbs, and sodium.
